Common Ground To Be Web-Published In 2009

Beginning with the Fall 2009 issue of Common Ground, CFAR will offer members a choice for receiving Common Ground. Common Ground, CFAR’s primary publication for distribution of foundation news and articles about North Carolina archaeology will soon be available in two formats: electronic and printed copy. The steadily escalating costs associated with printing thousands of newsletters and mailing them to the membership prompted the CFAR Board of Directors to approve both media. In a culture rapidly becoming dependent on web-based programs, a significant reduction in costs can be made by offering limited printed copies of Common Ground to those who are willing to cover mailing costs or contribute annually in an amount greater than $10 per year. Web-based copies will be available to all; the web is free and increasingly used for informational purposes. Members may select their preference by completing the form located here, or by completing the paper copy included with the last issue of the newsletter.

Introducing the Artifact Pages

CFAR is pleased to announce the redesign of the web site and the introduction of the Artifact Pages. Our first Artifact Pages presents Prehistoric Projectile Points typically found in the Carolinas. For each projectile point there is a series of photographs showing artifact forms followed by a summary of projectile point characteristics including form, age, distribution, size, composition and method of manufacture. We hope you will find this information informative.

It is our intent to expand the Artifact series to include items such as prehistoric and historic ceramics and prehistoric stone tools, military items and artifacts found at some of North Carolinas many Historic Sites. Your suggestions are always welcome.
